Description
Only the princess parrotfish and the striped parrotfish produce elliptically shaped eggs. However, the striped parrotfish spawns in the evening, whereas the princess parrotfish spawns in the morning. Therefore, a parrotfish egg containing a larva observed in the afternoon is likely from the striped parrotfish. In contrast, an elliptical egg without a larva observed in the afternoon is likely from the princess parrotfish.
